forgives

Catechism Connection

When the pastor forgives sins, in Whose name does he do so?

The pastor does so in the name of Jesus.

How has Jesus rescued us from the punishment for our sins?

Jesus redeemed us with His holy and precious blood, and with His innocent suffering and death upon the cross.

How does this connect to the Bible story

Because of our sins, we deserve the punishment for sin:  physical death and spiritual death (hell).  Jesus took that punishment n Himself.  Jesus suffered and died on the cross so that our sins, and the sins of the whole world, would be forgiven. Our sins are forgiven in the name of Jesus because Jesus is the One who made that forgiveness possible.

The youth of St. John are important members of our community. They assist in our worship through singing, playing instruments, and serving as acolytes. In addition, middle school and high school groups meet on Sunday morning for Bible Study and at various times each month for fun, service to the church and community, and Bible discussion.

Youth Bible Study

Youth Bible Study meets at 10:00 Sunday mornings in the Youth Room.  All high school youth are invited to attend.  Click the link for the schedule.

Acolyte Ministry

The Acolyte Ministry is comprised of St. John's baptized youth--between the ages of 11 and 18. Acolytes take active roles in the church as worship leaders by lighting candles, assisting with offering, and leading processions during festival services. All of them have undergone training and are a valued asset to our congregation.

Other Service

In addition to activities specifically geared towards youth, we encourage youth to participate in other ministries in the congregation.  Currently or in the past, youth have served as sextons, choirs and praise teams, musicians for worship services, readers, ushers, greeters, cooks, volunteer days, Sunday School teachers and assistants, and in many other ways.
